The Sierra de la Laguna Biosphere Reserve interpretive hike is in one of Baja California Sur's most beautiful but least explored areas. Part of an island off the coast of Baja 10 million years ago, the Reserve is home to an incredible diversity of plant and animal life. On this 'Reach for the Sky' hike, you'll hike as high up the mountain as you can and still get home before dark! This tour is recommended for experienced hikers only.

You'll depart from Todos Santos at 9am and drive for approximately an hour from the ocean, through the desert, to the mountain trail head where the hike starts.

The walk begins in the selva Baja caducifolia (desert scrub) and continues through lush reserves of oak forest and pine. Your guide is a professional naturalist guide and a gifted story-teller, as well as a certified Wilderness First Responder. Hence, you will get a lot of great information about local flora, fauna and history.

The Biosphere Reserve (where you'll be hiking) was part an island off the coast of Baja some 10 million years ago, and the incredible diversity of plant and animal life of the reserve still reflects the island isolation the area once enjoyed. Over 23% of plants and 10% of animals found in the reserve are endemic to the area.

Chef Iker Algorri will pack the picnic lunches that you take on the trail and this includes delicious sandwiches and fruit. You will hike as high up as you can and still get home before dark. The return to Todos Santos is around 5pm.

Kayaking is the perfect way to explore the Sea of Cortez and what the UNESCO World Heritage has mentioned is filled with "striking natural beauty in a dramatic setting." The amazing scenery is formed by rugged islands with high cliffs and sandy beaches and you can admire the contrast and reflection from the desert along with the turquoise waters.

When it comes to sea kayaking, the place to go is the Sea of Cortez. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is home to 39% of the world's total number of marine mammal species. This accounts to a third of the world´s marine cetacean species, plus 891 fish species. The place where you'll kayak is a short and easy drive from Todos Santos. You can choose from two different options. Snorkeling and coastal kayaking in the Sea of Cortez or kayaking at the Balandra Bay.

During the coastal paddle, you will kayak/paddle along the coast and 3 rocky islands which are home to rookeries for blue herons and blue-footed boobies and even a family of sea lions. You will then snorkel in great spots accessible only by kayak and have a celebratory lunch. It is great for all levels, but some strength and endurance is required.

You can choose to kayak at the Balandra Bay and this is a great trip for paddlers of all skill levels and doesn't require as much strength as option 1.

This adventure includes round-trip transport from Todos Santos/La Paz, bilingual guide (certified Wilderness First Responder), picnic lunch and all necessary equipment.

Experience what Mexican mountain-rancher life is like during this 5-hour Baja experience. Drive on beautiful desert roads, and pass through cactus forests and huge, dry arroyos to reach a working ranch in the middle of a mountain oasis. Be warmly welcomed into the home of your local hosts, where you'll take a pottery class and learn how to make tortillas with a group of no more than 10 people. Over a traditional "ranchero" lunch, learn how Baja Californians have carved their homes–and their livings–out the mountains for centuries.

Get picked up from your centrally located Todos Santos hotel at 9am, and enjoy a beautiful 75-minute drive through the mountains towards the working ranch of Doña Ramona and her family. Pass through huge, dry arroyos and cactus forests as you drive on quiet desert roads. Smell the aromas of your traditional lunch cooking when you arrive at the ranch, then sit down with Doña Ramona for a group pottery class. Listen to stories of her life in the mountains as you learn tips for working with the local clay.

Once you’ve created your own Baja California pottery masterpiece, head into the kitchen with your group to learn how to make tortillas in the traditional Mexican way. Sit down to enjoy the fruits of your labor with several "ranchero" dishes, made with fresh local ingredients. After lunch, take a tour of Doña Ramona’s ranch. Group size is limited to 10 people for a personal experience. Check out her pottery kiln and the little chapel for the priest that visits the village twice a month.

Time and interest permitting, you may wind up the trip by visiting some of Doña Ramona’s neighbors before driving back to Todos Santos. The tour concludes back at your Todos Santos hotel between 2pm–3pm. Please Note: A vegetarian meal option is available, please make a note in the Special Requirements field when booking.
